The initial idea

Finding the demand for Music entertainment is developing fast with digital platform, still young people's interest emphasizes on Classical & Vintage Style. I pick up the idea of creating apps for a Vinyl online shop that help those who want to buy online vinyl. Also, the vinyl owner can grow and expand their business to meet the demand of massive potential customers on the market. I believe that this vinyl platform helps the Vintage music style compete with other kinds.

Target Analysis

Group 1: Young people (18-30 years old ) who can afford vinyl and are able to keep their collection updated with newest music album releases.

Group 2 : Vinyl lovers who are interested in listening to the original sound of Vinyl and appreciate an original vinyl pressing to the dark side of the moon and back

Stakeholder : Shop owner & Website Manager

The goal of user research

Go gather insights and learn about the people I have set out to target.
Look for patterns of information that help us validate or invalidate our problems & solution assumptions.

Surveys

Before launching the MVP, I wanted to gather insights from the existing users. We set up an online survey and asked them to fill it out, combining it with 1-1 interviews
  1. Do you often buy vinyl online?
  2. What is your motivation doing that?
  3. Can you give me some pros & cons between buying at Vinyl online and offline store?
  4. Is there any problem interfering with your online buying process, and how did it make you feel?
  5. Can you describe in detail your process of make Vinyl order from an online platform?
  6. Have you ever had a more than great experience with any online Vinyl store? If so, please describe in detail what was great about it….
  7. Outtro: Based on everything that I asked you. Let’s say I’m going to give you a solution to solve any problems you have. And you have a magic wand, you can get anything. What is your wish?

Define

Problem statements

This helps us understand and articulate the Problem.

Within a problem, it’s important to understand who the person is that has the problem, what their goal is and what they’re the solution to the problem is.

Persona

Based on the user groups sorted out from the interviews, I start to build two persona that can represent common needs of the users that the platform would base on to build out
Persona1
Persona2

User Journey

To have a deeper understand at user's workflows and pain points, user journey map has been established to act as visualization and analytic tool
Customer journey can be defined by analysing the Empathy Map

Site map

The first aim is to find a concept for a website which easily get user attention. Then I try to simply website flow which can easily choose items and check out the cart.
  • Navigation Bar includes the most common categories that the buyer usually looking for. I also add a search bar for those who know the song title and want to directly find the item. And another navigation button is used for additional links to other pages. Login and cart icons are put on the right so users can log in/ sign up right away.
  • On the main page, to recommend the newest album – I draw the users’ attention to the new arrival list. Besides that, I add the record of the month so that the user can listen to it directly.
  • The album will be classified by the music genres
  • Information of an album should its description, tracklist preview. Then there is add to cart and the quantity controller
Customer journey can be defined by analysing the Empathy Map

Basic User Flow

There is two main type users

1. Member: Who has signed up an account and new settlers

From the landing page, users can directly look for, choose the items, add to cart, then check out the cart. The user will be requested to log in before conducting the payment step.

Or they can log in first, to check their wishlist or last chosen items in cart. Then can go the same steps above and check out the cart.

2. Visitor: Who visit the website for the first time

This user can directly surf, and explore the pages. Check items they want, then add to cart. Before conducting the check out cart step they will be requested to sign up and fill the information so that they can normally go ahead with payment.

Or they can sign up first, then go the same.
